How Safe is your Water?

"Is your drinking water safe? That depends on several factors: the source; the treatment the water receives, if any; and the quality of the pipes in your home."

How Safe Is Your Water? - New York Times

This article by Cornelia Dean explores the safety of public water according to the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency) and the CDC (Center for Disease Control). This is a really GOOD article for background information and for keeping up with the local New England public water testing being conducting in towns such as Dorchester. (More news to follow soon!)

For the record, a good way to make sure you're getting the safest, cleanest and "freshest" tasting water from your public water (aka: that thing called the faucet in the kitchen), buy a Brita filter and get yourself a reuseable stainless steel and BPA free water bottle! It will save you a ton of money while you're saving the environment, helping people get access to clean water in Africa AND you'll be supporting your public water system!

Clean Water Act, Coal Mines and the EPA

"The Environmental Protection Agency said it wants to make certain the proposed mines won’t cause water pollution and violate the Clean Water Act."

EPA set to review coal mine permits- Boston. com

Check out this article from Boston.com!  It discusses the potential for new mining to cause water pollution but the Obama administration might just save the day pressing for additional scrutiny in granting mining permits.
